During the fall there is a decrease in the amount of weeds present. This means that new grass won’t have to compete for resources with these weeds and can therefore develop stronger, heartier roots.
2) Warm Soil Temperatures
In the northeast grass germinated when soil temperatures are between 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall is an ideal time to install a new law as the soil will be warmed from months of summer sun and will likely fall into that 50-60 degree range.
3) Cooler Air Temperatures
The intense summer heat can be too much for a new lawn. Increased air temperatures may cause new lawns to wither away before they have a chance to truly take hold. The cooler autumn temperatures are much more gentle and nurturing for young seedlings.
4) Optimal Rainfall Levels
The fall is a great time to install a new lawn due to increased rainfall during this season. This level of rainfall is optimal for growing strong roots, leading t o a more vibrant and beautiful lawn come the spring time. Due to increased rain, lawns installed in the fall only require intensive watering for 2 months, compared to 4-5 months if installed at other times of the year, saving you time, money and conserving more water.
